RALEIGH – The board of trustees of the North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund holds its regularly scheduled meeting Monday, August 9, 2004 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Burke County Agricultural Building at 130 Ammons Drive in Morganton. The N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation will provide a tour of Lake James for the CWMTF trustees on Sunday, August 8, beginning at 9:00 a.m.. News media are invited to attend. The tour will leave from Lake James State Park and will last until approximately 12:00 noon. The division has requested a $11.5 million grant from CWMTF for expansion of the park. Trustees will review the request at their September 13 meeting in Kinston. In Morganton, the board will review 24 applications for stormwater management projects from across the state including:
Projects acted favorably upon by trustees will remain eligible for further and final review later this year. In addition, CWMTF trustees will hear
a presentation from Lewis Ledford,director of the N.C. Divison of Parks
and Recreation, Susie Hamrick Jones, executive director of the Foothills
Conservancy of North Carolina, On Sunday afternoon, the board's restoration and stormwater, acquisition, long range planning, and personnel committees will meet beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Burke County Agriculture Building. The CWMTF was established in 1996 to help finance projects that enhance or restore degraded waters, protect unpolluted waters, and/or contribute toward a network of riparian buffers and greenways for environmental, educational, and recreational benefits. CWMTF estimates that more than $10.5 billion is needed to protect and restore water quality in North Carolina. The 21-member, independent, CWMTF Board of Trustees has full responsibility over the allocation of money from the fund. ###
