CLEAN WATER MANAGEMENT TRUST FUND BOARD TO CONSIDER LAND ACQUISITION FUNDING REQUESTS RALEIGH - The board of trustees
of the North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund (CWMTF) holds
its regularly scheduled meeting Monday, February 14, 2005. Monday’s meeting begins at 8:30
a.m. at the North Carolina
Zoological Park in Asheboro The board's acquisition and legislative committees will meet on Sunday, February 13 beginning at 11:00 a.m., also at the zoo. Complete agendas for all February meetings can be found by clicking here. During the board's Monday meeting,
CWMTF trustees are scheduled to hear preliminary recommendations from
the board’s acquisition committee on at least 50 funding requests
totaling $66.4 million to acquire lands to protect water quality.
That includes 26 new acquisition and planning grant requests and 24
requests deferred from previous cycles. The CWMTF was established 1996 to help finance projects that enhance or restore degraded waters, protect unpolluted waters, and/or contribute toward a network of riparian buffers and greenways for environmental, educational, and recreational benefits. CWMTF estimates that over $10.5 billion is needed to protect and restore water quality in North Carolina.
