Clean Water Management Trust Fund Board Meets in Rutherford County Jan. 8-9 RALEIGH - The board of trustees of the North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund holds its regularly scheduled meeting Sunday, January 8 and Monday, January 9, 2006 at Lake Lure in Rutherford County. The board will meet both days at the Lake Lure Inn, located at 2771 Memorial Highway. Sunday's meeting will begin at 11:00 a.m., when trustees hold their annual planning retreat. The board's Restoration and Stormwater and Stewardship committees will meet later in the day, beginning at 5:20 p.m. The board's Personnel Committee will meet Monday at 7:45 a.m., followed by the full board's regular meeting at 8:30 a.m. The full agenda for all meetings is available at www.cwmtf.net /jan06agenda.htm On Saturday, January 7, CWMTF trustees and staff will take a hiking tour of the Worlds Edge property that will soon be added to the new Hickory Nut Gorge State Park. CWMTF, Parks & Recreation Trust Fund, Natural Heritage Trust Fund and private funds have all contributed to the acquisition of the property. Media wishing to attend should meet at the Lake Lure Inn at 1:00 p.m. Please note the hike is weather permitting. The CWMTF was established in 1996 to help finance projects that enhance or restore degraded waters, protect unpolluted waters, and/or contribute toward a network of riparian buffers and greenways for environmental, educational, and recreational benefits. According to recent estimates by the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center, more than $15 billion is needed to protect and restore water quality in North Carolina.
