CWMTF Trustees Meet in Goldsboro May 15-16 to Consider Funding Priorities

RALEIGH – The board of trustees of the North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund holds its regularly scheduled meeting Monday, May 16, 2005 at Wayne County Community College in Goldsboro in preparation of setting funding priorities for the 100 grant requests currently eligible for funding.

The board will make its final funding decisions on the $172 million worth of grant applications at its July meeting in Cary. Final decisions are dependent on appropriations by the North Carolina General Assembly. The Senate's recently approved nearly $17 billion budget includes full funding for CWMTF - $100 million.

Monday’s meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. and will be held in the dining hall of at the college's Wayne Learning Center, located at 300 Wayne Memorial Drive in Goldsboro.

The board's acquisition, restoration and stormwater, infrastructure and wastewater, stewardship, joint long range planning and restoration and legislative committees will meet on Sunday, May 15 at the Learning Center, beginning at 1:40 p.m.. Click here for agendas for all CWMTF meetings.

At Monday's meeting, CWMTF trustees also will hear presentations from Karen Brashear, Public Utilities Director, City of Goldsboro, Reid Wilson, Executive Director, Conservation Trust for North Carolina and Chuck Roe, Southeast Program Director, Land Trust Alliance.

The CWMTF was established in 1996 to help finance projects that enhance or restore degraded waters, protect unpolluted waters, and/or contribute toward a network of riparian buffers and greenways for environmental, educational, and recreational benefits. According to recent estimates by the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center, more than $15 billion is needed to protect and restore water quality in North Carolina.

The 21-member, independent, CWMTF Board of Trustees has full responsibility over the allocation of money from the fund.
