Lt. Governor Perdue is scheduled to speak at 11:30 a.m.. The North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund also will continue its review of grant requests submitted December 1, 2005 for land acquisitions and wastewater treatment improvement projects designed to protect water quality. Included in the review of acquisition projects are six grant requests from The Nature Conservancy to purchase just over 76,000 acres of forestland from International Paper Company in the state. The projects are part of an overall effort to protect 220,000 acres in 10 southern states. A complete list of projects under review is available online here. On Sunday, May 7, the board's acquisition, infrastructure and wastewater, stewardship, and restoration and stormwater, committees will meet, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Agendas are available on line at http://www.cwmtf.net/may06agenda.pdf Projects acted favorably upon by the trustees at the March meeting will remain eligible for further review later this year. Final decisions on funding for projects are dependent on the availability of funds as determined by the N.C. General Assembly. The CWMTF was established in 1996 to help finance projects that enhance or restore degraded waters, protect unpolluted waters, and/or contribute toward a network of riparian buffers and greenways for environmental, educational, and recreational benefits. CWMTF estimates that more than $15 billion is needed to protect and restore water quality in North Carolina. The 21-member, independent, CWMTF Board of Trustees has full responsibility over the allocation of money from the fund. ### For more information, contact Lisa Schell at 919-716-0057 or 919-280-3292.
