RALEIGH -The Board of Trustees of the Clean Water Management Trust Fund gave final approval to 64 grant requests totaling $55.7 million to protect and preserve North Carolina's water resources earlier this week. The board considered 101 funding applications totaling $110.4 million for water quality projects all across the state that were submitted for review on June 1, 2006. Approved grants include:

The CWMTF was established in 1996 to help finance projects that enhance or restore degraded waters, protect unpolluted waters, and/or contribute toward a network of riparian buffers and greenways for environmental, educational, and recreational benefits. CWMTF estimates that more than $17 billion is needed to protect and restore water quality in North Carolina. The 21-member, independent, CWMTF Board of Trustees has full responsibility over the allocation of money from the fund. ###
