RALEIGH -The Board of Trustees of the Clean Water Management Trust Fund will review grant applications for wastewater and infrastrusture improvement projects when it meets in Mt. Air, N.C. Monday, September 11, 2006. The CWMTF Board of Trustees meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Mt. Airy Country Club located at 420 Country Club Road. At the meeting, the board will begin its review of 33 new wastewater improvement grant requests totaling $50.2 million which were submitted on June 1, 2006. A list of projects to be initially reviewed is on line here. Final funding decisions on the requests are expected to be made later this fall. On Sunday, September 10, the board's Stewardship, Funding Alternatives for Wastewater and Stormwater Projects, Infrastructure and Wastewater ,Staff Efficiency Evaluation and Planning, and Budget committees will meet, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Mt. Airy Country Club. Complete agendas for all meeting are on line here. In addition, the board will hear presentations from Jeff Boyles, PE, Public Services Director for Mt. Airy who will update trustees on theTumbling Rock Reservoir Stormwater Project and the Ararat Stream Restoration Project. Both projects received CWMTF funding. Also, Ralph Williams, President of the Resource Institute, will address the board. The CWMTF was established in 1996 to help finance projects that enhance or restore degraded waters, protect unpolluted waters, and/or contribute toward a network of riparian buffers and greenways for environmental, educational, and recreational benefits. CWMTF estimates that more than $17 billion is needed to protect and restore water quality in North Carolina. The 21-member, independent, CWMTF Board of Trustees has full responsibility over the allocation of money from the fund. ###
